Privacy Policy

Coachswain ("we", "our", or "the app") helps rowers record workouts, review performance, save workouts to Apple Health, and optionally share activities with Strava. This Privacy Policy explains what information Coachswain collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Depending on the features you use, Coachswain may collect or process:

• Account information: your email address and authentication details used to sign in.
• Profile information: information you choose to add, such as name, surname, phone number, gender, date of birth, height, weight, and maximum heart rate.
• Workout information: rowing sessions, dates, duration, distance, split data, stroke rate, heart rate samples, and workout type.
• Location information: GPS route points, speed, altitude, course, and accuracy data during outdoor rowing sessions.
• Motion information: device motion data used to estimate stroke rate during a workout.
• Health information: heart rate and workout data read from Apple Health with your permission, and workouts/routes saved to Apple Health when you choose to save them.
• Strava information: Strava authorization tokens stored on your device and workout files uploaded to Strava when you choose to share an activity.
• Purchase information: subscription status and entitlement information provided by Apple's App Store. We do not receive your credit card number or payment details.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

• record, display, and analyze rowing workouts;
• calculate pace, distance, splits, stroke rate, and heart rate summaries;
• sync your profile and workout history across your devices when you are signed in;
• save workouts and routes to Apple Health when you authorize it;
• upload selected activities to Strava when you request it;
• manage premium subscription access through the App Store;
• provide account access, password reset, and email sign-in features; and
• maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the app.

Firebase and Cloud Sync

Coachswain uses Firebase services, including Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, to support account login and cloud sync. Profile data, workout summaries, route data, heart rate samples, stroke rate samples, and related session data may be stored in Firebase when cloud sync is enabled or when you are signed in.

Some workout data is also stored locally on your device so the app can work quickly and preserve your logbook.

Apple Health

Coachswain requests access to Apple Health only after you grant permission through Apple's Health authorization prompt. The app may read heart rate and workout data to show live metrics, improve workout summaries, and enhance exported workout files. The app may write rowing workouts and routes to Apple Health when you choose to save a workout.

Apple Health permissions can be changed at any time in the iOS Settings app or the Health app.

Location and Motion Data

Coachswain uses location data to record outdoor rowing routes, distance, and pace. Location data is collected during workout recording and may continue in the background when needed to complete a session. Motion data is used to estimate stroke rate. You can manage location and motion permissions in iOS Settings.

Strava

If you connect Strava, Coachswain uses Strava OAuth to obtain permission to upload activities. Strava access and refresh tokens are stored on your device. Coachswain uploads workout files to Strava only when you choose to share an activity. Your use of Strava is also governed by Strava's own privacy policy and terms.

Subscriptions and Payments

Premium subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. Coachswain receives subscription entitlement status so the app can unlock premium features. We do not collect or store your credit card number, bank account information, or App Store payment credentials.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share or process data only as needed to provide app features, including with:

• Firebase/Google Cloud: for authentication, data storage, and cloud sync;
• Apple: for HealthKit, Apple Watch, App Store subscriptions, and Apple platform services; and
• Strava: when you connect Strava and choose to upload an activity.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or to prevent abuse or security issues.

Data Retention and Deletion

Coachswain keeps account, profile, and workout data for as long as needed to provide the app's features or as required by law. You can delete individual workouts from the app's logbook. You can also use the app's account deletion option to delete your profile information and Firebase Authentication account.

Your Choices

• You can choose whether to create an account and whether to sync workouts to the cloud.
• You can manage Health, Location, and Motion permissions in iOS Settings.
• You can disconnect Strava in the app, which removes locally stored Strava tokens.
• You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID subscription settings.
• You can request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.

Children's Privacy

Coachswain is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International Data Transfers

Firebase, Apple, and Strava may process information on servers located in different countries. By using Coachswain, you understand that information may be processed outside your country of residence where privacy laws may differ.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and may provide notice in the app or through other appropriate means.
